カナディアン・アカデミーは、1913年に創立され、100年以上の歴史のある、日本でも有数の幼小中高一貫のインターナショナル・スクールです。国際バカロレア（IB）認定校で、卒業後は、世界中の大学、特にアメリカ、カナダ、イギリスの大学及び日本の大学に進学しています。「オーケストラ」や「ドラマ」といったユニークな科目が提供され、また、アウトドア行事や異文化理解のための様々な行事を通じて、世界に開かれた人材の育成に取り組んでおられます。多くの日本のIB認定校の先生方が研修に訪れる研究校でもあります。

At Canadian Academy, School Counselors work closely with students and families to identify the student’s priorities in university planning. Counselors work to meet the needs of students and families in an ever changing world. We deliver programming aimed to help students explore strengths, interests, possibilities and challenges. We support students with regular in-class programming and through individual work. We work collaboratively with teachers, advisors, outside providers and school leaders to address the needs of our community and students.
With careful counsel, students apply to universities around the world with the strength of their IBDP coursework and diverse co-curricular profiles. 56% of students attend school in North America, 22% study in Japan and others go to Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions. Our students are prepared for community engagement and rigorous coursework at a broad variety of universities.

カネディアンアカデミーは、IBの伝統校です。初等教育であるPYP(Primary Years Programme)、中等教育であるMYP(Middle Years Programme)、ディプロマプログラムDPに分かれています。
日本語教育には、Language Acquisition(日本語を外国語として学ぶコース）とLanguage and Literature（日本語を母国語として学ぶコース）があります。Language Acquisitionは初級、中級、上級のレベル分けがされており、生徒たちはレベルに合ったクラスで学習することができます。Language and Literatureのクラスでは、文学作品を読んだり、広告文や演説、新聞記事など、様々なテキストタイプに触れて、ディスカションをしたり、分析文を書いたりしています。生徒たちが様々なテキストを自分で読み、自分で考え、考えたことを言語化できるように、日々、授業に取り組んでいます。
生徒たちは全員、英語でLanguage and Literatureのクラスを取っています。９年生（中学３年～高校１年）のクラスではEnglishの先生と協力して、平和をテーマとしたユニットを作り、広島／長崎の文学作品や映画、スピーチを読み解き、核兵器廃絶に向けて自分たちができることを考えさせています。
