Ms. HORIKE Risa
I decided to participate in the CAMPUS Asia Program as I wanted to try as many things as possible in order to make the most of the opportunity to learn at graduate school. Through this program, I have pursued two goals.
The first one is to learn about the global society’s current issues and consider how to tackle them. As a high school teacher, it is significant to know about the current situation of the global society in order to teach the students and raise their awareness of global issues. I was worried in the beginning if I could keep up with other students in a class about globalization as my major is different from international studies. Yet, in hindsight, I could expand my knowledge about various global issues from the scratch and deepen my understanding through discussion with highly motivated
students.
The second goal is to learn the Korean language. Learning a new language is enjoyable,
however, it sometimes does not go well as you want.
Standing on a language learner’s viewpoint will help me to understand my students more as an English teacher and improve my teaching to meet their needs.
Some courage was needed to join the CAMPUS Asia Program, but the great learning experiences at Korea University surely broadened my horizons and will be a great asset for my future career.
