Expectations for human resources who can contribute in diverse fields around the world

Located in Kobe, a thriving international city since the opening of Kobe Port in 1868, Kobe University has established itself as a base of world-class research and education, serving as a superior research institute exercising maximum collaboration and integration based on its future vision, and continues creating new value to provide solutions for society’s current and future problems. Our goal is to promote multi-layered exchanges with core universities overseas through joint research and collaborative education, drastically increase hub-campus functions that accept and dispatch outstanding human resources to and from universities around the world, and produce human resources capable of taking the initiative in finding solutions to global issues.
The Program for Careers on Risk Management Experts in East Asia promoted by Kobe University, Fudan University (China), and Korea University (South Korea) for the past 10 years was established as an important project within the future vision of Kobe University. Now we are expanding collaboration to universities in two other ASEAN Member States, Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) and the National University of Laos (Laos), to further promote the Joint Education Program for Multidisciplinary Education Program for Careers on Risk Management Experts (CAMPUS Asia Plus Program). Through the 10-years of CAMPUS Asia Program, more than 150 students have experience student mobility among Japan, China, and South Korea to gain knowledge and experience as international specialists equipped with the ability to solve problems.
It is our hope that this CAMPUS Asia Plus Program will serve as a launching pad for ambitious young people to enter a diverse range of fields around the world and develop into individuals capable of contributing to solve the issues facing our society and community.

NISHITANI Makiko

Director of Executive Comittee, Professor, Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies

It has been already more than a decade since the original CAMPUS Asia Program was launched between Kobe University, Fudan University, and Korea University. It was renewed into the “Plus” program in 2021 by adding new partners, Chulalongkorn University and the National University of Laos. Our program aims to train risk-management experts who can deal with a diversity of risks, ranging from natural disasters, environmental degradation, educational inequality, poverty to international conflicts. We offer programs of double-degree, exchange, and short-term study, as well as various internship opportunities, so that students can develop not only expert knowledge but also language and communication skills, which are necessary for working in global society. I hope many students will tap into these opportunities and thrive beyond borders.

OGAWA Keiichi

Deputy Director of the Exective Committee, Professor, Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies

The CAMPUS Asia Program adopted by MEXT as the 2021 Inter-University Exchange Project sets the goal of cultivating human resources equipped not only with practical knowledge and skills in risk management for international institutions, international and domestic NGOs, medical institutions, and private companies, but also with language ability, presentation and the ability to understand different cultures.
This program is also attractive because it provides opportunities for internships at international institutions (World Bank, WHO, UNESCO, UNICEF, etc.), government agencies, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), medical institutions, and international and domestic NGOs. For the students wishing to work at international institutions and global companies in particular, this program provides outstanding opportunities to improve English proficiency, critical thinking skills, and ability to get things done. I am confident that all students who enroll in the CAMPUS Asia Program will acquire knowledge and ability to thrive in global society.

KAMEOKA Masanori

Program Instructor, Professor, Graduate School of Health Sciences

Even with advanced medical technology, infectious diseases continue to be a major cause of death around the world. New infectious diseases, such as COVID-19 rampant over the past couple of years, have been appearing one after another. Our laboratory has been engaged in basic studies aimed at the development of new therapeutic methods for human pathogenic viruses.
We have also been conducting field surveys on outbreaks of infectious diseases and drug-resistant viruses in cooperation with research groups in Asian nations in the vicinity of our country. By engaging undergraduate and graduate students in such research, we cultivate young researchers capable of playing a central role in the study of infectious diseases around the world.
