Through the Campus Asia Program, I was able to build many meaningful connections. I believe the greatest appeal of the program is the opportunity to gain valuable experiences that would not be possible in Japan. In particular, Thailand has a rich culture and history. From a nursing perspective, I found it especially interesting to learn about its approaches to primary health care and the effective use of community resources, while also recognizing the challenges that still exist.
My career goal is to become a public health nurse who supports people from diverse backgrounds. Living abroad as a foreigner gave me a valuable opportunity to better understand the difficulties experienced by foreign residents in Japan. During my stay in Thailand, I was fortunate to be surrounded by kind and supportive people, so I rarely felt a psychological barrier. However, I often encountered language barriers and difficulties related to unfamiliar systems and institutions. At the same time, I realized that when there is no psychological barrier between people, it becomes much easier to overcome other barriers.
In the future, when working with foreign residents in Japan, I hope to make every effort to ensure that they do not feel psychological barriers when interacting with me. As a public health nurse, I also hope to develop and implement policies that address these psychological barriers. My goal is to become someone who treats others with kindness and respects each individual’s background. I believe that pursuing this goal will contribute to my personal growth and, ultimately, help me become a more effective and compassionate public health nurse.
