Short-term Study
Kobe University to Chulalongkorn University
Graduate School of Health Sciences
Ms. KATSUKI Eri
I participated in an exchange program with Chulalongkorn University. During the three-month study abroad experience, I gained not only specialized knowledge but also many new perspectives, making it a really valuable opportunity.
In the disaster management course, I learned about the differences between Japan and Thailand, the importance of individual health management during disasters, and effective preparedness strategies. I also studied meta-analysis techniques, allowing me to acquire a broad range of knowledge. When I joined a case study session at the university hospital, I observed the response and decision-making processes on-site and participated in discussions based on real cases. This deepened my practical understanding beyond what theory alone could offer. One of the eye-opening experiences was joining an evacuation drill at a school for the blind in Bangkok. It really made me think about what kind of challenges visually impaired people face in emergencies and how we can better support them—something I hadn’t considered before.
Throughout the program, I had regular meetings with my mentor, which provided opportunities to talk about daily concerns and difficulties. I received specific advice on how to advance my research and I was supported not only academically but also in daily life. This experience was very meaningful, and I strongly feel that I was able to get through the three months thanks to the support of many people. I hope to apply the experiences I gained in Bangkok to my future research and activities.
