The National University of Laos intensive and immersive educational experience through its one-week course delivery on Advanced Development Economics has enabled me to have a comprehensive in-country understanding of economic development. I had the opportunity to learn about the application of economic theories, policies, and strategies imed at fostering sustainable development in the region.
The Campus Asia Plus Program also provided 2 weeks internship program at the Ministry of Education and Sports in Lao. I valued the chance to have sessions with government officials from different education departments, gaining valuable insights into policy formulation, implementation, data collection, and monitoring and evaluation of Lao. To round out the
experience, the program included visits to primary schools in Vientiane, Laos, offering a ground-level view of educational challenges and successes in the country I also had the privilege of visiting United Nations organizations like the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, UNICEF, and UNESCO as well as meetings with JICA officers and the Asian Development Bank inter alia.
These visits provided a unique opportunity to engage with international and national policymakers, fostering a broader perspective on development issues.
The program finally culminated with one week of field visits in Vientiane, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang, where I explored Laos’ rich culture, history, and natural beauty. These discoveries of the local culture, cuisine, scenic landscapes, and way of life of the local people, have provided me with a well- rounded experience, combining academic learning with cultural immersion.
In summary, this program is not only a transformative educational experience in the heart of Southeast Asia but also on a personal level, I have developed a deeper appreciation of Laos’ unique challenges and opportunities on its path to sustainable development. It has been an amazing journey with pleasant and cherished lifelong memories.
