On May 8, 2025, the Global Network Program (GNP) hosted the “Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Recruit Seminar.”

The seminar welcomed Mr. Taro Seriu, Representative of the Office in Asia at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and Mr. Paul El-Meouchy, Talent Solutions Lead in Human Resources at the IDB. The speakers introduced the IDB’s organization and activities and provided insights into recruitment and career development at an international development finance institution.

The seminar began with an overview of the IDB and its role as an international development finance institution supporting economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The speakers explained how the IDB works with national governments and various development partners to address development challenges across the region. They also introduced the relationship between Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the role of Asian member countries, including Japan, within the IDB.

The seminar then focused on career development and recruitment at the IDB. The speakers introduced the expertise, professional experience, and competencies sought by international organizations, as well as various career opportunities and recruitment processes at the IDB. From a human resources perspective, practical advice was also shared on the skills required to work in an international and multicultural environment and on how students and young professionals can develop the experience and expertise needed for future careers in international development.

During the Q&A session, students raised various questions regarding applications and recruitment processes at the IDB, the expertise and professional experience required, and career development within international development finance institutions. Mr. Seriu and Mr. El-Meouchy provided concrete responses and advice based on their respective professional roles and experiences, leading to an active exchange of views. The seminar provided participants with a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the IDB’s role in supporting development in Latin America and the Caribbean and to learn about recruitment and career development in international development finance institutions from both operational and human resources perspectives.
