Our 6th grade students and 4th grade students from Sendai interaction team participated in this program.

6th grade: M’s presentation

Verification of Usability of Woodchip Concrete as a Building Material by Measurement of its Strength

4th grade: SA & SB

Disaster Prevention through Learning from a Disaster Affected Area: Applying Lessons from Tohoku to Kobe

Student’s comments:

4th: SA

It was a good opportunity to recheck what we have been doing in our Sendai interaction program. There was a good opportunity for us to exchange my thoughts with other school’s students. At the lunch break, I was able to communicate with other students. I was able to think about how we can make a safe community which will last for 10 years. From now on, I would like to think about other areas and continue my research.

4th : SB

This symposium was very interesting and I was able to know more about what I should do on my graduation KP projects.  I was able to hear the English presentations done by the SGH schools and overseas schools. I realized that we should disseminate our research not only inside Japan but also to the world. I had a time to do discussions during lunch time. I had a chance to talk with the students who were researching the economy of developing countries.  At the poster session, many people asked us questions. Students from overseas asked me “What is resilience?” but I could not answer in English, and I thought that I should improve myself more. I realized about the difficulty of how to share what we have learned and contribute to our local society.

2016-Kobe University Relay Lectures-3rd

OverviewBasic Sociology –What do you need to be a Global Person-

JAPIC, Planning and Coordination Division

Mr. Uemura Shunichi

Student’s comments: Before this lecture, I was thinking that the most important thing to deal with globalization is English ability. Now I realized that the most important thing is to have my own way of thinking. Additionally, I realized that I should learn to respect the other religions and have a mind to consider others and to know more about my own country.

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Director of Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau - Mr. Hiroyuki Suematsu

Student’s comments: “Agricultural crops and forests are the fruits of our predecessor’s labor and we have to keep it for the next generation.” This comment was made at the beginning of the lecture. I realized that these words sum up today’s lecture.

Mayor of Kamaishi City Mr. Takenori Noda

Student’s comments: We should continue to have connections with our neighbors. “What should we do to improve Japan’s future?” - I would like to cooperate with my friends to find the answer to this question.

1st period1040-1210

Today’s financial system

Mr. Takashi Yoshimura

Goldman Sachs

Theme: The reason why finance is important.

From the student’s reports:

I realized a critical situation is happening in Japan when checking inside the value.

I was surprised to know that there are several patterns of bubble economy.

From now on, I will check the news to understand the conditions of my own country.

I now can say that high school students should know about finance.

I learned about the bubble economy and how it is effecting the developing countrys. I realized that economy which is only seeking profit will not work out.

Why don’t Japanese universities bring in asset management for efficient management? Universities in overseas have university funds so that graduates can donate to develop and grow their old school.

2nd period1300-1430

To clear the path of Japan’s future

Mr. NISHIMURA Yasutoshi

(LDP Chairman of the Committee on Cabinet)

Theme: Declining birthrate, informatization, globalization and our country’s vision

From the student’s reports:

I learned what will effect the country that will not join the TPP when the TPP starts.

I realized that it would be possible if I take the chance to talk with persons whom has other senses of values or looks at things differently from others, I can find new ideas.

I felt that women's empowerment will make a new groove throughout all industries.

I thought that Japan needs new work or new     ways to work as an addition to the exsisting approach to works.

People are good at treasure meeting with others which is something robots can never do.

3rd period1510-1640

How we should make our country from now.

Kunihiro Yamada Director, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Kinki Regional Development Bureau

Theme:

1. Public works will change our social life and the town will be refreshed.

2. Kinki Regional Development Bureau’s challenges

3. Taking actions for severe water disasters and the upcoming great earthquake.

4. Strategic counterplan  for facility obsolescence.

5. How social capital can improve productivity.

6.  Our local area, Kinki ? towards a bright future

From the student’s reports:

I am against building a dam, so I wanted to know more about the risk of dams.

I felt that Yamada-sensei is really respecting the local area and willing to give power to it.

It was amazing to know that the development plans are made to meet disaster control which may happen in the future.

I felt that they should open "TEC = FORCE reports" to the public.

Title2016-Kobe University Relay Lectures

Overview

Date: June 11, 2016 (Sat.) 1320~16:40

Place: Tsurukabuto First Campus K bldg. K202 Classroom

Theme: “What is globalization? What shall we do in Japan?”

“What should students study and what should they learn?”

Lecturer: Naoya KadowakiJAPIC Senior General ManagerMasaaki Miwa (POSITIVE JAPAN Junko Nakagawa Nomura Holdings, Inc. Executive Officer Toru Miyamoto JAPIC Business Development Dept. Matsuto OgawaDirector, Kobe University

Our students joined the first session of Kobe University “Basic Sociology:What do you need to be a global person?” (Relay Lectures).

More than 200 university students joined the session. Our students was very active in the Q and A session. They were questioning the lecturers after the session.

From the student’s report:

I will stop excusing myself saying that “I am still a teenager”. I will find what I can do and what I should do to make the world a better place.

● I was exactly thinking the same as Mr. Miwa said. “Self-establishment is more important than technical know-how and other languages”. I should be more confident and move on.

It was impressing to learn that the difference between Global and International is coming from the borders.

We should be aware that Globalization may make the originality of its country fade away. We should do something about it.

The reason why we are losing Japaneseness is coming from the daily life.
